I am a very creative and imaginative person who is especially open to new ideas or new ways of thinking about old problems. I love to approach a conventional idea or a traditional way of doing things by walking around to the other side and explore it from a novel perspective. What's new is what interests me. Like an artist looking for a new way to see, I focus my imagination on envisioning ideas, events or problems in completely original ways. I?m intellectually progressive, which means I like to think and feel my way into unexplored landscapes where I let my sense of intellectual adventure romp freely. Because I?m so curious I can also be very teachable. You learn from personal and interpersonal experiences as well as from classrooms and textbooks. I crave new information, and toss and turn it in my vivid imagination. When I come across an idea from someone else or a thought in my own head that is particularly provocative or original, I light up. With wit and wisdom, Dr. Seuss describes me like this: "Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!"
I am very goal-oriented and driven to achieve my goals. Whether at work or around the house or in small tasks or large projects, I want to know what the goal is. Once I know, I give single-minded attention to developing a plan; I gather and organize resources in an orderly fashion, and discipline myself to work until the job is done. I will get it done, and done correctly; my attention to detail is one of my most striking characteristics. Whether organizing the garage or the kitchen cupboards or rolling out a new product line at work, I define the goal, think strategically about how to achieve it, and work in an orderly and self-disciplined way to get the job done. I am this way in relationships as well. I know where each person fits into my life, whether as a work colleague, a distant friend or one of my carefully chosen intimate circles. I am usually quite careful to keep each person in what is for me the comfort-zone of my relationship with them. Within that space, I am very loyal to them; I feel duty-bound to take responsibility for my part in the relationship, and I work hard to fulfill whatever I perceive is my obligation to the other person. I get uncomfortable when relationships get messy, such as when someone crosses the line from colleague to friend without my invitation, or when an intimate acts irresponsibly and compromises my trust in them. With people, as with work, I prefer an orderly world.
People light me up. In conversations, planning meetings or almost any social situation, I bring my energy and friendly, outgoing personality into these engagements with other people, and I come away pumped up. I can hardly wait for the next event, as long as other people will be there. I know how to communicate. I listen well, the first rule of good communication, and then, when it's my turn, I talk vigorously and with animation; in my uninhibited way I give all that I've got to the encounter. In situations where I feel very safe, when I know and trust the people I?m with, I can be very kindhearted and unrestrained. I let my affection for and pleasure in being with others flow freely. I?m wide open and when I get back this same kind of unrestrained warmth, I am deeply satisfied. Because I am so friendly and full of life, these are among my favorite moments.
